Last Minute Mother's Day DIY

If you're like the rest of us you've been living under a rock the last week preparing for finals.  Mothers Day is right around the corner (literally, it's this Sunday).  So instead of coming home for the summer with 10 loads of laundry, surprise your mom with a hand made gift.  We've come up with a list of DIY gifts your mom will love.

Flowers are always the go to gift for Mother's Day, so why not get a little creative with it.  Pick out a pot that your mom will love.  Buckets, vases, and bowls all work as well as that old ceramic pot.
The type of flower you choose to give her can say a lot.
Rose - Motherhood
Lilacs - New love, Love between mother and child
Irises - Affection and Warmth
Orchids - Refinement and Beauty
Carnations - Motherhoods eternal love
Tulips - New life, Charity, Spring
Lilies - Spring, also a Mother's Day favorite

Take your Mother's Day bouquet to the next level and make it out of cupcakes! It's a cute and delicious way to say I love you.  Check out this step by step video on how to make cupcake bouquets.

Sure candles are great, but why not dress it up a bit. We love the idea of pairing a beautiful candle with lavender, the warmth from the candle will create  an aroma your mom won't forget.  We also recommend making your own teacup candles.  They're pretty easy to make.  Go to a second hand store and get a few matching teacups, saucers are a plus.  Next head over to a craft store and purchase a candle making kit.  Melt the wax, pour it into the cup, cut the wick to the right length and you're good to go.
