Style Spotlight: Americana

An Americana inspired home isn’t only for the 4th of July.  This growing trend brings American style into the home with a subtle classic look.  It’s easy to decorate around a patriotic theme, just be careful not to over do it.  An American theme often has aspects of country, rustic, or nautical styles.  Any of these are easily converted or combined with a patriotic flare.

Color:
It’s pretty simple, just stick with good old red, white, and blue! It’s important not to go overboard with bright primary colors.  You don’t want it to look like the 4th of July every single day.  So keep the colors subtle, soft whites and creams give a warmer look and are great for walls.  Navy blue and dark reds give the space sophisticated American style without being too much.

Décor:
Be inspired by the stars and strips of the American flag.  Use your own twist on the stars and stripes.  Stripes are easy to find in throw pillows, curtains, and any fabric really.  They don’t have to replicate the thick bold patterns of the flag or even be red!  Many different patterns can inspire patriotic style.  Look for American inspired art work, country landscapes or antique photographs will complement your theme.  The flag can be a great addition to your patriotic room.  The flag can be used as a focal point like art on the wall or a smaller subtle reminder of the land you love.

These are some beautiful examples of subtle American style without having the stars and strips on every wall.  These are from Better Homes and Gardens, get the whole article here!
Here are more great design inspirations, some a bit more literal. Read more on these designs at Interior Designipedia.

I'm in love with the rustic elements in the living room below. The worn coffee table and tribal rug juxtaposition the contemporary red accent chairs create a truly unique style. Love it!
