What's special about Albert Auto Service?

Albert's not only wants to fix your automobile, but they want to educate you on what is happening and why. A post from Albert's Facebook page:

  • Air quality affects us wherever we are in Cedar Rapids. Years ago, residents began to become aware of how air pollution negatively affects health. But what about the air inside your vehicle? Cabin air filters are now coming on most new vehicles since the 2000 model year. These filters clean the air in the passenger compartment. They can filter particles down to three microns, so that’s good enough to clean out dust, pollen and most pollutants. If you suffer from allergies, this is very good news. You can look in your vehicle's owner’s manual to see if you have a cabin air filter. If you do, there’ll be a recommendation for when to replace it. If you live where there’s a lot of dust, pollen, or pollution you may need to change it more often. You can also ask us at Albert Auto ServiceThe difficulty of changing a cabin air filter depends on your vehicle. Some are quite accessible; others take some doing to get to them. Cabin air filters are usually in the vehicle engine compartment or under the dashboard. Because cabin air filters are so new on the scene, some motorists haven’t heard of them – even people who already have cabin air filters. Some customers complain of an unpleasant odor in their vehicle and it turns out to be a dirty cabin air filter. An important note for hybrid owners: there is a special air filter that cleans the air, which cools the hybrid battery pack. This filter should be inspected every time the cabin air filter is inspected and replaced if it is dirty, so the battery pack doesn’t overheat. Give us a call!

    Lifestyle: Thanksgiving

We all know that calorie counting can be a struggle over Thanksgiving break. I mean, one piece of pie can be up to 500 calories alone. Okay, maybe that was too much information. However, it doesn't have to be a total disaster if you follow these Do's and Don't's:

    Do's
Drink water. Alcohol, coffee, and juices dehydrate your body.
Portion size. You know what they say, "Variety is the spice of life!" Go for the smaller portions and try everything, just in moderation.
Stay active. Avoid that food coma nap and play a family game or wrestle around with your cousins. It's fun. You'll see.

    Don't's
Skip the skin. Choose a skinless portion of turkey to avoid the extra fat and cholesterol.
Skip the seconds. Resist the temptation to go back for more. Wait 10 minutes to let it settle.
Skip the salt. Salt causes water retention, which leads to dehydration, which leads to low energy. It's a viscous cycle. So taste it first, you may not need it!

    *Another tip*
Have leftover turkey? Avoid the carbs from the bread in turkey sandwiches by making a Turkey Vegetable soup, instead!

    Trend Casting Spring 2014

Pantone has officially announced the color palette for spring 2014! These hues come straight out of New York Fashion Week and reflect the seasons most prominent color trends.  This season designers are taking a modern approach to a traditional spring palette.  Typically in spring we see soft flowing pastels, but this year designers are pairing traditional shades with bold vibrant colors.

"This season, consumers are looking for a state of thoughtful, emotional and artistic equilibrium. While this need for stability is reflected in the composition of the palette, the inherent versatility of the individual colors allows for experimentation with new looks and color combinations."
    Leatrice Eiseman
    Executive Director,
    Pantone Color Institute®
On one side of the palette are three airy pastels, Placid Blue, Violet Tulip and Hemlock.  Placid Blue stole the show in men's fashion, 17% of designers at Fashion Week used the sky blue hue.  Violet Tulip is a romantic color, a spring hallmark that evokes a calm, wistful sensation.  Hemlock is labeled as an unexpected shade of green, verging on neutral.  Designer, Emerson has this to say on Hemlock in spring fashion, "Green has been so popular and ever present that I don't think it will disappear. Designers know how to reinvent some colors." That seems to be exactly what they did, jumping from the bold Emerald that was Pantone's 2013 Color of the Year to subtle Hemlock for 2014.
The go-to neutrals for spring 2014 are Paloma and Sand. These hues work well for any occasion and can be paired across the board.  Although these colors are inspired by New York Fashion Week, the 2014 spring palette applies to all areas of design. Say goodbye to boring neutrals, these sophisticated colors pair anything and keep your style up-to-date.
Some vibrant additions to this springs palette are Cayenne, Freesia, and Celosia Orange.  Cayenne adds some heat to traditional spring colors.  Freesia, a vibrant yellow, adds a dash of excitement to any tired wardrobe.  For a hint of spontaneity take on Celosia Orange.  These vibrant colors add a burst of life to this springs color palette. Try pairing vibrant colors with pastels for spring for a sunset inspired look.
On the opposite side of the color palette is Dazzling Blue and Radiant Orchid.  These colors are bold counterparts to Placid Blue and Violet Tulip. Although the two power house hues make a statement on their own, they also pair well throughout the palette.  They can add a creative spark to pastels or add confidence when paired with other bold colors.
