Lifestyle: Thanksgiving



We all know that calorie counting can be a struggle over Thanksgiving break. I mean, one piece of pie can be up to 500 calories alone. Okay, maybe that was too much information. However, it doesn't have to be a total disaster if you follow these Do's and Don't's:

Do's
Drink water. Alcohol, coffee, and juices dehydrate your body.
Portion size. You know what they say, "Variety is the spice of life!" Go for the smaller portions and try everything, just in moderation.
Stay active. Avoid that food coma nap and play a family game or wrestle around with your cousins. It's fun. You'll see.

Don't's
Skip the skin. Choose a skinless portion of turkey to avoid the extra fat and cholesterol.
Skip the seconds. Resist the temptation to go back for more. Wait 10 minutes to let it settle.
Skip the salt. Salt causes water retention, which leads to dehydration, which leads to low energy. It's a viscous cycle. So taste it first, you may not need it!



*Another tip* 
Have leftover turkey? Avoid the carbs from the bread in turkey sandwiches by making a Turkey Vegetable soup, instead!
