Style Spotlight: Gothic

In honor of it being October and Halloween coming up, here we have the Gothic style. It originated in France in the 12th century and lasted to the 16th century. The most famous example is the Cathedrale Notre Dame de Paris.

Consisting of pointed arches, and vaulted ceilings, gothic style architecture is meant to display a sense of grandiosity. It is one of the first cases where a large emphasis was placed on decorative and ornate elements. Also, who can forget the gargoyles!? Plus, Gothic styles just have almost a creepy quality to them. Why else would you be reminded of The Adams Family whenever you see black, wrought iron chandeliers?
